Linoleum Monotype from the Dance to Hold Up the Sky Series (2003)

One day, a vision appeared to me, entirely new, unlike anything I had ever known about nature. It came through the generosity of Ailton Krenak, a man whose life is more integrated with nature than mine. Old trees in the square guarded the silence amid the rush of traffic. Suddenly, it felt as if the city was far away. A light evening breeze blew, creating a faint hum, like music. Occasionally, the leaves collided, creating joyful sounds. Nothing seemed outwardly different — just a square, like many others in the city — but now there was something more. In that moment, there was a sense of alignment in the timing of things, as if they all shared a single purpose. Spatial reality no longer mattered. The distance between self and other dissolved, and dualities no longer made sense. A single truth was enough for meaning to exist. I realized I was also part of the same dance; I had just been unaware of it.The street channeled the wind, softened by the square's vegetation, freeing it momentarily from definitions and haste, integrating everything — but only for an instant, quickly fading, like an oasis between urban reality and the Cosmos. The same search has stayed with me ever since — something that had always been there, unnamed.

Other encounters followed that dance with Ailton, and the memory of that shared dream now manifests in the images rearranged in the Cosmos of Art. Through monotypes, paintings, and sculptures, there is always the chance to be carried by the wind and dance with the Sky that still holds us.

In this work, natural plants were used as aesthetic elements, interacting spontaneously with colors to form unique compositions. The final image is revealed after being removed from the press, creating an unpredictable visual impact — characteristic of the monotype process. Graphic ink on Canson paper, 224 gsm. Original artwork not for sale.
